Delicious drink can stop bloating and boost immunity over Christmas

Wellness shots have taking the world by storm and this Christmas one immunity boosting drink could help you debloat.

It's no secret that most of us eat more around Christmas and feel more bloated than usual. Christmas lovers will be diving into their Quality Street boxes and chomping down on stuffing balls. So, getting any extra nutrients where we can at this time of year will be highly beneficial to our health.

Popular chain coffee shops have fridges filled with intense flavoured drinks which are said to help boost our nutrients intake. From lemon, to orange, turmeric, and kale - these ingredients are said to help combat inflammation and aid are overall health and wellbeing. These small yet powerful doses can help battle an upset stomach too.

One of the most popular choices are ginger shots - known for their antioxidant properties. Some people even make their own ginger drinks at home. Research published by the New York Academy of Sciences indicated ginger may also play a role in promoting weight loss by boosting metabolism, reports the Express.

The research also showed that active compounds in ginger, including gingerol and shogaol, have been found to stimulate metabolism, enhancing the body's ability to burn calories efficiently. This stimulation can lead to increased fat burning and, consequently, weight loss.

What's more, ginger has the ability to regulate blood sugar levels. While ginger does contain vitamin C, the amount may not be substantial, so ginger shots are often formulated to include lemon juice or orange juice to enhance the intake of vitamin C. This combination not only complements the flavour but also provides an extra boost of this essential vitamin, further supporting immune function and overall well-being.

Registered dietitian Candace O'Neill, RD, LDN, told Cleveland Clinic: "There are certain enzymes in ginger that can help with bloating, help ease constipation and help with nausea. If you're dealing with IBS symptoms, this may help to reduce some of your symptoms."

Functional drinks brand Unrooted pointed out ginger acts as a natural appetite suppressant and the consumption of ginger has been associated with a reduction in feelings of hunger and cravings, providing support for adherence to a healthy eating plan.

The NHS reports: "Some people find that ginger helps with nausea and vomiting, such as ginger tea (you can buy ginger tea, or make it by adding peeled, fresh ginger root to hot water), stem ginger, ginger beer, or ginger added to food."

If you're unsure or concerned whether it is safe for you to consume ginger, consult your GP for guidance.
